The names of the priests who served the parish during the first centuries of its existence are not known, and owing to the loss of the early records, and the casual way in which some later ones were kept, this list is not necessarily complete, even from the sixteenth century. Till the patronage was transferred to the Bishop in the nineteenth century the Prebendary of Heathfield in Chichester Cathedral was Patron, except in case of lapse or of grant of next presentation.
