Birdham is a parish, in Manhood hundred, rape of Chichester, Westhampnett Union, 4 miles south-west from Chichester; it contains 1,930 acres. The population, in 1841 was 506. The Arundel & Portsmouth canal passes through the parish, and terminates at Chichester harbour, a branch of which forms its northern boundary. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Chichester, and deanery of Boxgrove, value £396 per annum, in the patronage of the Dean of Chichester, and incumbency of the Rev. W.
