St Mary the Virgin, Willingdon

Location: North wall of Ratton Chapel.

Inscription:

Near this Place lyes the Body of Sir George Parker
of Ratton, in this Parish Baronet,
Eldest son of Sir Robert Parker Baronet,
He married Mary eldest Daughter of Sir Walter Bagot
of Blythfield in Staffordshire, Baronet, whose Ancestors were
Progenitor to the Earls of Stafford and Dukes of Buckingham,
He was twice chosen Knight of the Shire for this County,
Particularly in that memorable Parliament,
which restored Peace to Europe,
Under the auspicious Reign of her Sacred Majesty
Queen Anne, of Blessed Memory.
He died the 18th of June 1726 in the 50th Year of his Age
and left issue by Dame Mary, his Wife
Three sons, Walter, Thomas and Nicholas
and four daughters, Sarah, Anne, Jane and Philadelphia.
In Testimony of her Affection to her Husband
She desired that after her Death, their Ashes might not be divided
And therefore Ordered her Body, to be Interred
In the same Grave.
She was a Lady of Exceeding good Character
Prudent, Pious and Charitable.
In the midst of Family Misfortunes
Shewed a great Example of Meekness and Humility
of Patience and Resignation to the Will of a God.
A sincere Friend, a most Dutiful Wife
and a tender Mother
She died 14th Day of May 1727, in the 52nd Year of her Age.
Sir Walter Parker, Baronet, their Eldest Son
to Their Memory, Erected this Monument
Intending to be buried near it.

Here lieth the Body of Sir Walter Parker Baronet
who lived in a hospitable Manner at Ratton in this Parish 23 Years
and departed this Life unmarried the 19th day of April 1756
in the 56th Year of his Age
by whose Death the Baronetage of this Honorable Family
is extinct.
