This chapel in its early days was ministered by Jenkin Jenkins, who held uncompromising Calvinist beliefs which caused a split in the congregation. Some left and joined him at a new chapel, the Jireh Chapel, built for Jenkins by William Huntington in 1805. The chapel continued in use for for most of the 19th century. Registration for marriages was transferred to the Hamilton Presbyterian Church in 1869.
