With, reference to the announcement of the undermentioned awards which appeared in the London Gazette of the 12th March, 1919, the following are the acts of gallantry for which the awards were made: AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL. G/3755 Pte. H. Godden, 2nd Bn. , R. Suss. R. (Eastbourne). For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion, to duty in the attack on Pontru on 18th September, 1918. When his company was held up by machine-gun fire he rushed forward and bombed and captured the machine gun, thus making the way clear for the company to advance. During a halt in the advance for reorganisation he went forward through the protective barrage and obtained most valuable information. He set a splendid example of courage to all.
