In the name of God Amen the twenty third day of December according to the computac[i]on of the Church of England I THOMAS HATCHER of CHILTINGTON in the County of Sussex husbandman beinge weake but of p[er]fect memory & remembrance praised bee God doe make & ordaine this my last Will & Testam[en]t in mann[er] & forme followinge revokinge all other Wills First I bequeath my Soul into the hands of almighty God my maker hopeinge that through the meritorious death & passion of Jesus Christ my only Savio[ur[ and Redeem[er] to receive free pardon & forgiveness of all my Sins and as for my body to bee buryed in Christian buryall att the discrec[i]on of my Ex[ecu]tor hereafter nominated
It[e]m I give to MARY my loveinge Wife & her three small children JANE & MARY & GEORGE the sum of forty pounds to bee paid within halfe a yeare after my decease
It[e]m I give to MARY my Wife one bed and all that belonginge to itt and all the Linnen belonginge to shee & her children & ye Coffer w[hi]ch was her mothers & one small Chest to bee paid by my Ex[ecu]tor nev[er] thelesse if shee and my Ex[ecu[tor doe not agree to live together till the halfe year bee expired then when they part hee is to pay her the forty pounds
It[e]m I give to my Daughter SUSAN the wife of RICHARD MECHER ye sum[me] of ten pounds to bee paid within Seaven years after my decease my Will & intent is shee should have itt to her use & her husband nev[er] to have any of itt to bee paid by my Ex[ecu]tor nev[er] thelesse if shee should come to great want my Will is shee should have some soon[e]r
It[e]m I give to my daughter MARY the wife of JOHN SNOSHALL the sum of ten pounds to bee paid within four years after my decease to be p[ai]d by my Ex[ecu]tor
It[e]m I give more to my three small children
It[e]m I give to my Daughter JANE the sum of ten pounds to bee p[ai]d by my Ex[ecu]tor when shee shall come to the age of one & twenty yeares

It[e]m I give to my son GEORGE ye sum of ten pounds to bee paid by my Ex[ecu]tor when hee shall come to ye age of one & twenty yeares

MARY HATCHER – the Wife of the Testator. Her maiden name is not currently known. Was she the Widow Hatcher buried in West Chiltington on 14 January 1707/8?
GEORGE HATCHER – Son of the Testator. George was baptised in West Chiltington on 3 May 1674.
ELIZABETH HATCHER – Daughter of the Testator. Elizabeth was baptised in West Chiltington on 28 Dec 1676. She was buried there on 22 February 1680/1
