Will of Henry Skinner of West Chiltington

In the name of God Amen this twentith day of October in the year of o[ur] Lord god one thousand six hundred Fifty & nine I HENRY SKINNER the Elder of CHILTINGTON in the County of Sussex Husbandman being in good Health & good remembrance (thankes be given to the Lord therefore) but calling to minde the uncertainty of my life as to worldly matters doe make this my last will & Testam[ent] in manner & forme following

First I give to the poore the sum[m]e of Twenty shillings to bee distributed among them uppon the day of my buryall

Item I give unto JOANE SKINNER my beloved wife the sume of Five pounds of good English money but uppon C ondicon not withstanding that shee the sayd JOANE my wife doe seale give & deliver a generall Release & Acquittance for all matters whatsoever to my Executor hereafter named Still pr[o]vided that yf shee the sayd JOANE my wife refuse or neglect to give such An Acquittance as aforesayd to my Executor hereafter named then I doe onely give unto the sayd JOANE my wife onely the sum[m]e of Tenn shillings & noe more

Item I give unto JOHN SKINNER the sonne of JOHN SKINNER my brother deceased now living here in CHILTINGTON the ful sum[m]e of Thirty pounds of lawfull English money to bee payd unto him w[i]thin one yeare after my decease

Item I give unto WILLIAM WILLETT son of THOMAS WILLETT deceased the sum[m]e of Fifteene pounds of good English money to bee paid unto him w[i]thin one yeare after my decease

Item I give to ELIZABETH WILLETT Sister of the sayd WILLIAM WILLETT the full sum[m]e of Twenty pounds of like English money to bee payd unto her when shee shall accomplish her full age of one & Twenty yeares still p[ro]vided that they the sayd WILLIAM WILLETT & ELIZABETH WILLETT give unto my Executor generall releases under their ser[er]all hands & Seales

Item I give unto JOHN WILLETT the sonne of the sayd THOMAS WILLETT aforenamed deceased the Sum[m]e of Fifty shillings vizt Twenty shillings for himselfe & the other Thirty shillings to JANE his wife & all Reckonings to bee levell betweene him & mee

Item I give unto WALSINGHAM WELLER the daughter of JANE WELLER the sum[m]e of Forty shillings to bee payd unto her when shee shall accomplish the age of one & Twenty yeares

Item I give to JOANE PRYER the Relict widdow of EDWARD PRYER the sume of Tenne shillings & to all her Children Twenty shillings a peece to bee payd unto them when they shall accomplish their sev[er]all ages of one & Twenty yeares

Item I give unto all the Children of NICHOLAS SKINNER my brother the sum[m]e of Twenty shillings a peece to bee payd unto them sev[er]ally when they shall accomplish their sev[er]all ages of one & Twenty yeares & to NICHOLAS SKINNER his sonne also my great brasse pott

Item I give to HENRY SKINNER the sonne of HUGH SKINNER the sum[m]e of Twenty shillings to bee payd unto himwhen hee shall accomplish the age of one & Twenty yeares

Item I give to all my servants w[hi]ch shalbee living with mee at the time of my death Twelve pence a peece

Item I give unto JOHN SKINNER aforenamed now living w[i]th mee the sonne of JOHN SKINNER my brother the one half of all my howsehold stuffe (excepting of the linnan wholly onely whereof I give him onely Foure payre of sheetes & noe more) & the one half of all my bedds & bedding & the one half of all the tooles & implyments of Husbandry w[hi]ch I give to his owne use & behoof for ev[er]

Item I give & bequeath the lease of all those farmes & lands w[hi]ch I now have & occupy under the Hono[u]rable Lady BISHOP lately taken from HENRY GORING & HENRY PECKHAM Esquires (w[i]th the consent of the sayd HENRY GORING & HENRY PECKHAM Esquires had & obteyned) w[i]th all the benefitt of the sayd lease to NICHOLAS SKINNER my brother & Executor & to JOHN SKINNER the sonne of JOHN SKINNER my brother aforenamed now liveinge w[i]th mee (to bee used & occupyed by them both & joyntly together betweene them both) to the sayd NICHOLAS SKINNER & JOHN SKINNER their Executors Administrators & Assignes joyntly & to bee used & occupyed by them both together, Still provided that yf the sayd HENRY GORING & HENRY PECKHAM refuse to give their Consents to have these Lands soe used or that the sayd NICHOLAS SKINNER my brother refuse to use & occupy these sayd lands together thus w[i]th the sayd JOHN SKINNER my Kinsman accordingly that the my will & meaning is & I doe hereby give unto the sayd JOHN SKINNER his Executors & Administrators the whole sum[m]e of Thirty pounds of lawfull English money in consideration of the sayd lease to bee payd by the sayd NICHOLAS SKINNER my brother & Executor in case the sayd JOHN SKINNER cannot thus quietly injoy the one halfof the sayd Lease & lands accordingly

The rest of my goods & substance Cattells Chattells hosewhold stuff & money or money worth whatsoever unbequeathed my debts & legacyes given discharged & funerall defrayed I give & bequeath unto NICHOLAS SKINNER of THAKEHAM in the County aforesaid my brother whom I doe by these p[re]sents make & ordayne to bee the sole Executor of this my last will & Testament In witness whereof I the sayd HENRY SKINNER have hereunto sett my hand & Seale the day & yeare above written HENRY SKINNER Read Sealed Signed & delivered in the p[re]sence of ALAN CARR ROBERT FINCH THOMAS NORMAN
