Notes:

In 1812, farmer Henry Freeland demolished the two southernmost cottages of a row and then built a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. For over a hundred years the Chapel continued next door to the public house in the heart of the working part of the village. When it eventually closed in 1924, for a while it was a drapers shop. In the Second World War, it was used as a popular cinema a couple of times a week (c. 1943-45). Later there was a carpenter's shop, and Mr Allan's motor repair business. Kevin Doswell converted the building to a cottage in 1986. Mrs Phyllis Cotton purchased the window frames of the Chapel during conversion and her Architect son has incorporated them into the conservatory of his house.
