Sir Richard Hotham built a chapel of St. Alban in Chapel House (later known as Bersted Lodge and now Hotham Park House). The Duke of St Albans laid the foundation stone. The chapel was granted a licence in 1797 and was used for public services thereafter. After J.B. Fletcher bought the house in 1857 he had the chapel demolished.
