Evidence in the form of a 1908 postcard showing a weatherboarded shed near a railway bridge. The building was once a shop, but in 1858 became a Strict Baptist chapel. The baptists (from Cuckfield) had held services in 1845/6 in a private house, and despite opposition from residents a church was founded in 1851. The first building was soon turned into a row of cottages, but a preacher from Brighton acquired the Rocks lane building in 1858. The congregation failed in either 1914 or 1924, although the building survived a little longer.
