Sometimes called the Forest Church or the Sun Oak Church. Erected by the Scrace-Dickins family who had built and occupied the nearby Coolhurst (later to become St John's School). In 1889 the church was resotred and the chancel added to designs by J Oldrid Scott at a cost of £3,300.
