Parish was formed from part of Willingdon parish. Land was donated by Mr Freeman Thomas MP. The architect of the original church was W Hay Murray; it was constructed of red brick with stone dressings and brown roof tiles and the foundation stone was laid on 2nd May 1908, dedication following on November 18th.
It was in the Early English style.
The first church was destroyed by a direct hit by a bomb on 10th October 1940. The church records were all lost, and only the east wall with the bell were left standing.
In 1945 a temporary church was formed in a nissan hut.
The new church was not dedicated until 1953.Source: Church website.
